CHICAGO – Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul marked National Crime Victims Rights Week by highlighting services provided through his office’s Violence Prevention and Crime Victim Services Division. Raoul said the office has expanded access to victim services and uses a trauma informed approach to support survivors and families. The Illinois Crime Victims Compensation Program reimburses eligible victims and families for costs tied to violent crime, including medical care, funeral expenses, relocation, and lost wages, and processes more than 5,000 claims each year. The office also provides more than $17 million in annual grants to agencies that serve survivors statewide and operates programs that support sexual assault response, victim advocacy, and address confidentiality for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The division also provides training on victims rights and operates a hotline that received more than 9,600 calls last year and can be reached at 800-228-3368.
