Former Cubs star Anthony Rizzo is retiring from pro baseball. He now plans to rejoin the Northsiders as an ambassador. The Cubs plan on celebrating Rizzo’s career on Saturday at Wrigley Field.
He was a key player in the team’s 2016 World Series championship. Rizzo is also a three-time All-Star who has won four Gold Gloves and a Silver Slugger award.
The Cubs traded him to the Yankees in 2021. After three seasons, New York declined Rizzo’s 17 million dollar club option for 2025, making him a free agent. No team signed him this season.
