Illinois Launches Tax Time Enrollment Program for Health Coverage

CHICAGO — Get Covered Illinois has announced a new Tax Time Easy Enrollment program that allows uninsured residents to connect with health insurance coverage while filing their state tax returns. Officials said taxpayers can check a box on their IL 1040 form to request information, allowing the Illinois Department of Revenue to share basic household details with the program to determine potential eligibility for coverage. Those who qualify may receive information about options such as premium tax credits or Medicaid and will have 60 days to apply for a plan if eligible for marketplace coverage. The program does not affect tax returns and does not require enrollment. Officials said the effort is designed to help more residents access affordable health coverage, especially as the April 15 tax filing deadline approaches.
