DeKalb Council Rejects Solar Farm and Data Center Proposal

DEKALB — The DeKalb City Council on Monday night voted 5-2 against a proposed $30 million solar farm and data center project planned for the west side of Peace Road between Greenwood Acres Drive and Challenger Drive. The project, from Gail Technology and Donado Solar, included a 30-acre solar field and two 6,000-square-foot data storage buildings but required three ordinances for annexation, rezoning, and a development agreement. Council members cited community concerns in opposing the plan despite one member and the mayor voting in favor. With the failure of the development agreement, the annexation and rezoning ordinances were not brought forward, effectively ending the project.
