$35 Million Available to Encourage Student Transit Use

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Board of Education announced Friday that $35 million is available to help agencies create programs encouraging public school students to use public transportation outside the Chicago area. The Downstate Reduced Fare Grant Program and Downstate Cooperative Transportation Grant Program were created through legislation passed by the General Assembly earlier this year. Applications are due Oct. 15.
