Pritzker Marks One Year Since Operation Midway Blitz

CHICAGO — Gov. JB Pritzker is marking one year since the Trump administration launched Operation Midway Blitz in Illinois, criticizing the federal immigration enforcement operation and its impact on communities. Pritzker said the operation caused fear and economic disruption across the state, while a University of Illinois Chicago analysis found $1.26 billion in lost commercial activity and $107 million in lost sales tax revenue in Cook County. The governor established the Illinois Accountability Commission to examine federal agents’ conduct, and the commission released a report in April documenting what it described as unconstitutional uses of force, discriminatory stops and unlawful warrantless arrests. Pritzker said Illinois residents stood together during the operation and that the state will continue seeking accountability for federal actions.
