ROCKFORD – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced two road projects in Rockford that will impact traffic on Bypass U.S. 20 and East State Street. This week crews will restripe lanes on eastbound Bypass U.S. 20 near the Kishwaukee Street bridge between the Illinois 2 and Illinois 251 interchanges. The bridge was reduced to one lane after damage from an oversized truck on April 16. Work will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It includes a closure of the ramp from Illinois 2 to eastbound U.S. 20 and rolling traffic closures between the Meridian Road and Illinois 251 interchanges. Separately, work on East State Street, also known as Business U.S. 20, begins April 20 between Rockford College Entrance Drive and Fairview Avenue as part of a $1.8 million project that includes patching, milling, resurfacing, sidewalk updates, signal improvements, and right turn lane widening. Lane closures will occur during the day and at night, with most work done overnight.
