Whiteside County Sheriff Clarifies School Bus Crash Investigation

TAMPICO — Whiteside County Sheriff John F. Booker issued a clarification after an earlier release about a school bus crash contained incorrect information due to miscommunication. Authorities said the crash was first reported to the Tampico Police Department, which found tracks leading into a ditch but no bus at the scene. Deputies later located the bus at the Prophetstown Lyndon Tampico School District garage in Tampico, where passengers were checked by emergency medical services. After reviewing security camera video and continuing the investigation, a deputy issued the driver a citation for improper lane usage and conducted testing for intoxicants under the Illinois Vehicle Code. The crash remains under investigation.
