ROCHELLE – Veterans often experience mental health challenges including post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, traumatic brain injuries, and military sexual trauma. These conditions can cause flashbacks, nightmares, persistent sadness, irritability, and difficulty sleeping or concentrating. Veterans may also face adjustment difficulties when transitioning to civilian life, and stigma within military culture can discourage seeking help.
Andy Jackson, Marketing Manager with Sinnissippi Centers said, “Veterans have a higher risk of suicide, often linked to factors like PTSD that has resulted from their military service.”
“They have other challenges, often unemployment, homelessness. And it is a very special population and it sometimes takes a professional who is a veteran who’s trained in mental health to help them. And that’s why Sennissippi Centers actually does have a veteran services coordinator.”
“So it’s very important that we remember the special needs of the veteran population, be aware of that and and support them in their search for mental health and mental wellness.”
