Sycamore Man Charged With Killing Parents, Judge Orders Detention

SYCAMORE — A 35-year-old man has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder after authorities say he confessed to fatally beating his parents inside their home in Sycamore. Kevin A. Schmidt allegedly told DeKalb County deputies he planned the killings of 59-year-old Holly S. Schmidt and 60-year-old Gary A. Schmidt on Sunday and carried them out Monday before reportedly attempting to hide evidence. Deputies found the couple dead Tuesday morning and later arrested Schmidt near Chicago Rockford International Airport. A judge denied his release Wednesday in DeKalb County Court, citing the severity of the allegations and his criminal record.
