SYCAMORE — A Sycamore man has been arrested after his parents were found dead in a residence on Oakland Drive on Tuesday. Deputies responded to a call from a family member and discovered 60-year-old Gary A. Schmidt and 59-year-old Holly S. Schmidt, deceased from apparent blunt force trauma. Their son, 35-year-old Kevin A. Schmidt, who also lived at the home, was taken into custody and charged with four counts of first-degree murder. He is being held at the DeKalb County Jail pending a court hearing.

DeKalb County Sheriff Andrew Sullivan said that they have been called to that address before and that Kevin had recently moved back in.
“I think he had just moved back into the address, but we’re still verifying that, but he had lived there on and off, and then had left a couple different times, and I believe he just moved back in there not too long ago,” he said.
Sullivan said he believed the deaths took place recently, but further investigation is needed.
He noted that in situations of domestic violence, reaching out for help should be your highest priority.
“You should always contact the police so that we can get you the proper resources that might be needed to help resolve the situation, whether it be counseling, or if, in fact, someone needs to be arrested for something that had occurred, they should contact law enforcement immediately for their safety,” he said.
Kevin A. Schmidt will be back in court at the DeKalb County Courthouse at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
