Stillman Valley Man Accused of Killing Daughter-in-Law Dies in Custody

SCHAUMBURG  — A 76-year-old Stillman Valley man, accused of fatally shooting his 45-year-old daughter-in-law in a Schaumburg hotel parking lot last July, has died from complications of cancer. Authorities said Roland Schmidt followed Christine Moyer outside a wedding she attended and shot her in the head, and a citizen restrained him until police arrived. He remained in custody until his death on Feb. 3. Prosecutors said Schmidt had planned the killing a week before the shooting. Schmidt had been hospitalized for cancer treatment in December and stayed in the hospital until his death.
