Severe Thunderstorms Threaten Region with Hail, Wind, and Tornado Risk

ROCHELLE – A significant thunderstorm risk is expected today, bringing the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Morning storms could produce severe hail and strong winds, while afternoon storms, if they develop, may bring additional threats, including tornadoes.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Matt Friedline said it will be unpredictable today.

“It’s challenging for specifics today, but what we do know is we will have waves of storms this morning, soaking storms, and as we get to late morning lunchtime, some of those could start reaching severe limits,” he said.

Repeated rounds of storms could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.

“It’s a good day to regularly check in on the forecast and to just remember the hazards with lightning this morning when sending the kids off to school and to allow a little extra time,” Friedline noted.
