SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is urging residents to sign up as organ and tissue donors during National Donate Life Month. More than 4,000 Illinois residents are currently waiting for a transplant, with many facing life-threatening conditions. Currently, 6.5 million people are registered in the state’s donor registry, but around 300 individuals die each year while waiting for a suitable organ. A single donor can help up to 25 people. Residents can register through the Secretary of State’s Organ and Tissue Donor Registry by visiting LifeGoesOn.com.
