RTHS Board Reviews Budget Challenges and Funding Updates

ROCHELLE — Rochelle Township High School officials reported ongoing budget challenges, including a $1.5 million deficit and delays in federal Title 2 and Title 4 funding. The district plans to use reserves to fund the library and new scoreboards without borrowing, which is why the deficit has been built into the budget to use up those funds. District Business Manager Kevin Dale explained that some state and federal grants are being reduced or frozen, while a 2% tax increase added roughly $30,000. Superintendent Dr. Jason Harper reported a 20% increase in the district’s health insurance plan, with teacher contributions rising from $1,200 to $1,300, approved by the Teachers Association. Further updates are expected at the September board meeting before the budget hearing.
