Rockford Man Sentenced to Nine Years for Firearms Offenses

ROCKFORD — A 27-year-old Rockford man was sentenced to nine years in federal prison for possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number and selling firearms without a license. Angel Barrera-Esteves admitted to defacing and selling a handgun in 2022 and to selling seven firearms between 2021 and 2022, many obtained illegally through his mother, Jessica Barrera, who was sentenced last month to nearly three years in prison. Prosecutors said he also sold ammunition and a Glock auto-sear to people barred from owning guns or intending to use them illegally.
