ROCKFORD — A Rockford man has been charged with first-degree murder after authorities said he intentionally struck a motorcycle with a minivan, causing a crash that killed the rider Friday morning near West State and Monroe Streets. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office said Jose E. Olivencia III, 40, was chasing the motorcycle, driven by 45-year-old Mark Gesswein, after reporting two of his own motorcycles stolen earlier that day. Investigators said Olivencia’s van made contact with the motorcycle, forcing it off the roadway and leading to Gesswein’s death. Olivencia was booked into the Winnebago County Jail and later released without bail following a court appearance.
