Rockford K-9 Officer Recovering After Being Shot in the Line of Duty

ROCKFORD  – Rockford police provided an update on K-9 officer Andii, who was shot during a traffic stop over the weekend. The six-year-old police dog was injured in the shoulder and paw after a suspect opened fire while fleeing from officers near the 1000 block of East State Street. Andii was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Police credited her ballistic vest, which was donated by supporters, with protecting her from more serious harm. The suspect, identified as Vernon Frills of Wisconsin, was arrested and faces multiple charges, including attempted murder.
