ROCKFORD — Home sales in the Rockford metropolitan area dropped sharply in March compared with a year earlier, even as prices continued to rise, according to Illinois Realtors data. Rockford closed sales fell from 272 in March 2025 to 160 in March 2026, a 41.2% decline, though sales were up 18.5% from February. The median sales price in Rockford increased from $195,000 to $240,000 year over year, a gain of 23.1%, and rose 6.7% month over month. Across Illinois, closed sales increased from 9,774 to 10,075, up 3.1% year over year and 35.8% from February, while the statewide median price rose from $295,000 to $315,000, up 6.8%.
