ROCHELLE — The Rochelle City Council approved last month a resolution establishing Rate M1, a market-based electricity rate for large industrial users. The rate allows qualifying customers to purchase power directly through wholesale markets while remaining connected to Rochelle Municipal Utilities. Rate M1 includes a bond requirement to protect the city from financial risk and was developed following a review of RMU’s cost of service, including transmission and capacity charges. Officials said the new rate provides flexible options for large users while safeguarding the utility’s financial stability. Currently nobody in the service area meets the 13 Mega Watt minimum usage requirements.
