ROCHELLE – The Rochelle City Council has approved a resolution to waive competitive bidding requirements and authorize the purchase and installation of a new closed-circuit camera system for the Police Department and City Hall. It will include 34 new cameras and a server, with 10 existing cameras being reused. The total cost for the project is $111,686.76, which will be funded through the Municipal Building and Maintenance budget. Beck Tech out of Dixon was selected for the project after reviewing several vendors, as it offered the best option without monthly maintenance fees.
“The cameras were put in around 2001, so the technology is way outdated,” said Police Chief Pete Pavia, “and I can tell you several times a day our cameras go out, and we have to go out there and basically do the old school, unplug them, plug them back in, and then they come back on.”
