ROCHELLE — The Rochelle City Council approved a resolution authorizing execution of a state Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant agreement for new pickleball courts at Fairways Golf Course. The city has been awarded $237,000 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, covering about half of the estimated $474,000 project cost.
Plans call for converting an existing tennis court area into six regulation pickleball courts and adding site improvements including expanded parking, a wider and relocated entrance, a shade structure, and updated signage. The city and the Flagg Rochelle Community Park District are each expected to contribute about $118,500 toward the project. City officials said construction is tentatively scheduled for late summer or early fall 2026.
