Raoul Opposes Proposed Federal Rule On Electric Vehicle Charger Manufacturing

CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined a coalition of 15 attorneys general and the governor of Kentucky in urging federal officials to withdraw a proposal that would require electric vehicle chargers built with federal funds to use only United States made components, saying the standard is not achievable. The proposal would raise current federal requirements from at least 55 percent domestic components to 100 percent, a change Raoul said could halt projects that expand charging networks and slow growth in domestic manufacturing. Raoul and the coalition said the rule exceeds federal authority and conflicts with existing law, while also putting at risk investments already made under current guidelines that support the expansion of charging infrastructure across the country.
