Illinois Ranks Fifth in Nation for AI Related Legal Filing Errors, Study Finds 

CHICAGO – A recent study has found a sharp increase in legal filing errors related to artificial intelligence. According to analysis by Laine AI, Illinois had no recorded incidents in 2023 or 2024 but jumped to fifth in the nation with 33 cases in 2025. The study analyzed 724 confirmed AI-related filing errors from a court-record dataset, tracking hallucinations, fabricated citations and other AI-generated mistakes in legal proceedings.
