Raoul and Other Attorneys General Urge Colleges to Promote Student Diversity

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined seven other state attorneys general in an op-ed calling on colleges and universities to adopt fair admission practices that promote diverse student bodies following the Supreme Court’s decision restricting race-based admissions. The group, which includes attorneys general from Connecticut, Delaware, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, and Washington, emphasized using factors such as socioeconomic and geographic data to identify talented students from underrepresented communities. The op-ed argued that without such tools, higher education will continue to favor wealthier applicants and limit access for low-income and first-generation students.
