PAW PAW — The Village of Paw Paw is providing a dumpster behind the community center through Wednesday, Aug. 27, for residents to dispose of flood-damaged items after more than seven inches of rain fell Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Paw Paw Village President Michael Torman said many residents will be spending the week drying out.
“Most every house on Wisconsin Avenue had some sort of water, and throughout town it was sporadic, but quite a few homes were affected,” he said.
Resident Brian Ray, who was in the middle of a move to a new home out of state and storing belongings in a family member’s basement on Wisconsin Avenue, said the flooding left major damage.
“We only had a few inches of water in the basement, but once the power went out the sump pump stopped and everything was ruined,” Paw Paw resident Brian Ray said. “We lost all our mattresses and the basement floor alone will cost thousands to replace.”
The dumpster is available only to households that pay water bills through the village, as regular garbage collection will not pick up extra flood debris this week.
