OREGON — Oregon Police Chief Matthew Kalnins is marking 20 years of service with the City of Oregon. Kalnins was appointed police chief on August 13, 2024 after serving as interim chief. He joined the Oregon Police Department in 2006 after working as a correctional officer with the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office. He was promoted to deputy chief in February 2023.
Oregon Mayor Ken Williams presented Kalnins with a plaque on Tuesday night.
“We’re pleased to recognize and congratulate you on reaching an important milestone. 20 years of dedicated service to the city of Oregon. Your commitment and contributions to both the city and its citizens are appreciated. Thank you for your loyalty, hard work, and unwavering dedication,” he said.
Kalnins is a graduate of Oregon High School and has served as a school resource officer during his career. City officials recognized his long service and his work in community policing and public safety.
