Oregon Plans Bird Walk Event; Hopes For Bird City Designation

OREGON — The Oregon City Council approved an application April 28 for the city to be designated as a Bird City, following months of discussion about documenting local conservation efforts and bird friendly programs. City officials said the designation reflects work already underway, including planting native trees, maintaining habitat areas, and cleanup efforts along the Rock River. As part of the effort, a public bird walk is scheduled for May 9 at 8 a.m. at Kiwanis Park. Organizers said last year’s event identified more than 46 bird species in about two hours.
