OREGON – The Oregon City Council met Tuesday night and heard updates on the latest audit, infrastructure projects and redevelopment while also recognizing community cleanup efforts and fire training.
Roughly 30 volunteers took part in the annual Rock River Sweep on September 6th, removing trash, scrap metal and other debris from the river and banks. Auditors reported the city finished the year with a stronger balance than it started, saying finances are in order aside from a treasurer position the city does not staff, a common issue in smaller towns. Officials also said records of sidewalk upgrades are being compiled as planning begins for road work in fiscal 2027, part of ongoing efforts to improve walkability and follow the city’s comprehensive plan.
The Oregon Fire Protection District said they used a city-owned house on Third Street for live training before its demolition, giving crews a chance to work in a real setting while making use of the property.
In other business, the council finalized the $375,000 for the purchase of the Moring property for possible future riverfront redevelopment. The site potentially could be used for retail, housing and public access projects under tax increment financing agreements.
