MAPLE PARK — The Illinois State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting on Interstate-88 in DeKalb County Monday afternoon that left one person dead. Authorities said the incident began around 3:10 p.m. when a Naperville police officer located a vehicle near Route 59 and North Aurora Road tied to a missing person reported to be in a mental health crisis. The driver allegedly displayed a firearm and fled. Warrenville police later located the same vehicle and began a pursuit, with the driver reportedly continuing to display the weapon. The pursuit entered I-88 westbound and state police assisted. Spike strips were used in DeKalb County and the vehicle stopped near Keslinger Road. Authorities said both the driver and a Warrenville Police officer allegedly fired shots, and the driver was wounded. Officers gave aid at the scene before the driver was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported. The Illinois State Police said its internal investigators are reviewing its involvement while its Division of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the Warrenville officer’s use of force. The case remains under investigation.
