OREGON – The Ogle County Board approved an Artificial Intelligence Acceptable Use Policy Tuesday that sets rules for County employees, elected officials, contractors and vendors. The policy allows AI for tasks such as document editing, research, brainstorming and certain data analysis. It prohibits entering confidential information, personal information, financial data, health information or Criminal Justice Information into AI tools. Microsoft Copilot and Claude are currently the only approved AI tools. AI generated work must be reviewed for accuracy, and users remain responsible for the work they produce. AI prompts and outputs created for County business may also be subject to public records and retention laws. Violations could result in disciplinary action, including termination.
