NIU head football coach Thomas Hammock was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame this week during a ceremony in Fort Wayne, his home town.
Hammock was an all-state running back at Bishop Luers High School were he rushed for 17 hundred yards and 28 touchdowns his senior season.
He also had 11 hundred yards and 17 TD’s his junior year.
Hammock also took 3rd place in the state wrestling tournament his junior and senior seasons.
“To be inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame is a tremendous honor and something I was not expecting,” Hammock said. “I’m extremely proud of my high school experience at Bishop Luers. It was a big part of helping me develop on and off the field. When you receive an honor like this, a lot of people had a part – from my family to my coaches to my teammates – they all put me in a position to excel.”
Hammock was also inducted into the NIU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.
He begins his 7th season as head coach for the Huskies.
NIU opens up preseason camp on July 30th. The 2025 season opener is on Saturday, August 31st against Holy Cross in Huskie Stadium.
