OREGON – Construction has begun on a new $2.429 million Reagan Mass Transit District facility at 709 West Pines Road on the southern edge of Oregon, with a ground breaking ceremony planned for Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m. The 7,350 square foot facility is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Rebuild Illinois capital program and will include indoor parking for 12 buses and minivans, along with office and meeting space. Stenstrom Companies of Rockford is the general contractor, with Larson & Darby Group providing architectural services and IMEG providing engineering services. The facility is expected to improve passenger transportation operations in Ogle County and provide indoor storage for vehicles serving rural Winnebago County, a service Reagan MTD began providing in July 2025. The district provided 95,121 rides to residents of Lee and Ogle counties during the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2026. Whiteside County joined the district July 1, 2026, expanding its service area, and Reagan MTD expects annual ridership to exceed 130,000 passenger trips.
