SPRINGFIELD — Fourteen new Illinois laws take effect July 1, along with the state’s new fiscal year budget. The changes include making cocktails to go permanent, launching the new Department of Early Childhood, expanding school cyberbullying rules to include unauthorized artificial intelligence images, requiring more detailed reporting on prison contraband, and beginning work to establish the Office of State Public Defender. The state also suspended its scheduled 1 cent per gallon motor fuel tax increase through the end of the year.
