ROCKFORD — New entrance ramps to northbound and southbound I-39 at the U.S. 20/Harrison Avenue interchange in Cherry Valley are set to open today according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. One lane in each direction on U.S. 20 and Harrison will close starting at 10 a.m. Thursday for signal changes and lane shifts. The old loop ramps will close after the new ramps open, with final markings and signs installed overnight. The work is part of a $44.2 million interchange upgrade, included in the $302 million Rebuild Illinois project to improve I-39 in the Rockford area. Most of the project is expected to finish by year’s end. Drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes.
