LENA — Severe storms moved through northern Illinois on Friday with wind gusts reaching up to 70 miles per hour. The National Weather Service confirmed at least eight tornadoes across the state. Tornadoes were reported in Lena, Pecatonica, Harrison, Roscoe, Mendota, rural Livingston County, Gibson City, and Buckley. No deaths or serious injuries were reported. Preliminary findings rated the Lena tornado as a strong EF 2. The storm caused widespread damage including downed trees, power lines, and large hail. Recovery efforts continued in the village of about 2,700 people. Additional tornadoes in Winnebago County were confirmed near Pecatonica, Harrison, and Roscoe. A flood warning remained in effect in Byron where the Rock River was expected to crest above 15 feet, posing a risk to low lying areas.
