DIXON — A 77-year-old Dixon man who was reported missing Friday afternoon was found alive early Saturday after a resident reported hearing calls for help in a wooded area, police said. Officers located Michael McLaughlin around 2:34 a.m. near Countryside Lane and carried him to safety due to difficult terrain before he was transferred to Dixon City Fire Department paramedics for medical treatment. McLaughlin had last been seen walking south in the 400 block of South Dixon Avenue around 1 p.m. Friday, prompting an extensive search involving Dixon police, the Dixon City Fire Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office using K-9 units, drones with thermal imaging and search teams. Police credited a citizen’s call and community support with aiding the successful rescue.
