MENDOTA — A 62-year-old Mendota man was arrested Wednesday following a fire with suspicious origins in the 100 block of South 3rd Avenue. Police were called to the scene around 8:30 a.m., where the fire was found to have started on the exterior of a first-floor apartment. After an investigation with assistance from the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, Robert A. Bugiyne, who lives at the property, was taken into custody near the 800 block of Main Street. He was transported to the LaSalle County Jail ahead of a pre-trial hearing.
