MENDOTA — Community members will gather Feb. 28 for the ninth annual Polar Plunge at Lake Mendota to raise funds for Special Olympics Illinois, with top local teams working toward a $35,000 goal. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the plunge starts at noon. Funds help cover transportation, facility costs and competitions for athletes across the region. Region A Director Katie Risley said, “Combined, those efforts raised close to $200,000,” and added, “We really want to make our events excellent for our athletes who have worked so hard to get there.”
