CHICAGO — Mayor Brandon Johnson is open to bringing NASCAR back to Chicago. The mayor said if the street race does return to the city, it may have to be held on a different date other than July 4th weekend.
“If in fact NASCAR does return,” he said, “What is the optimal time if the two or three days should occur.”
Johnson added that everything must be on the table when the city negotiates with NASCAR. Several downtown aldermen said they weren’t consulted before former Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced the initial three-year deal with the auto racing company in 2022.
