ROCKFORD – Less than 24 hours after Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara announced he would resign from his decade-long held role, state Rep. Maurice West, D-Rockford, announced he would run to lead the city.
If West were to win a special election for the position, local Democrat party leadership would likely select his replacement for the district’s seat. The representative hasn’t said if he’d suspend his reelection campaign for the House, which he is running unopposed. A date for a special election hasn’t been announced yet.
