March Recognized as National Women’s History Month

SANTA ROSA, Calif. —What began as a local “Women’s History Week” in Santa Rosa, California, in 1978 has evolved into a month-long national tribute recognized every March to celebrate the often-overlooked contributions of women across all facets of American society. Spearheaded by the National Women’s History Alliance—formerly known as the National Women’s History Project—the observance gained federal status through a series of Congressional resolutions and Presidential Proclamations starting in 1980.
