ROCKFORD — A 31-year-old man is going to federal prison for setting fires at two Rockford churches. Marzavious Thomas was sentenced to five years behind bars. Prosecutors say he set fires at Bethesda Covenant Church and Crosspoint Church in October 2022. The fires caused more than 35-thousand-dollars worth of damage at both churches combined. Thomas pleaded guilty last year to federal arson charges.
