SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced $28 million in library and literacy grants statewide, with local awards including $36,755 for Northern Illinois University’s radio information service and literacy funding of $71,574 for Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon and $78,000 for Highland Community College in Freeport. The grants, supported by state funds and federal Library Services and Technology Act dollars, also provided more than $18 million to regional library systems, $6.7 million to literacy programs, and nearly $50,000 to veteran’s home libraries.
