Legislation in Springfield Proposes Delaying High School Start Time

SPRINGFIELD – Legislation is being discussed in Springfield that would delay the high school start time to 8:45 a.m. Supporters told the House Education Policy Committee that students that get eight hours of sleep succeed in classes and experience better mental health. The Illinois Principals Association opposes the idea and said a one-size-fits-all approach may not be feasible. The committee could vote on the measure this month.
