OTTAWA – The Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal officer involved shooting at the request of the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office after a 49-year-old man was killed during an exchange of gunfire with deputies Friday in Ottawa. Authorities said deputies reportedly spotted a vehicle that belonged to a person with an active arrest warrant and tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver fled. The driver later pulled into a driveway, got out of the vehicle and tried to escape before allegedly pulling out a firearm and firing at law enforcement. Deputies returned fire and struck the man, who was identified as Jacob Williamson of Ottawa. Deputies provided aid, but Williamson was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither deputy was injured. State police said the investigation remains active.
