King Howell Identified As Victim In DeKalb Shooting

DEKALB – The DeKalb County Coroner’s Office has identified 18-year-old King Howell as the victim of a shooting Friday in DeKalb. DeKalb Police Chief David Byrd said Howell was shot outside a Husky Ridge apartment building around 5 p.m. in the 900 block of West Hillcrest Drive. Howell was taken by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital before being transferred to a Rockford hospital, where he died Friday night. The DeKalb Police Department and DeKalb County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the shooting. Police are following up on several leads.
