Illinois Winter Utility Protections Active Through March

CHICAGO — Illinois residents are protected from gas and electric disconnections under the state’s winter weather rule from December 1 through March 31. The rule blocks shutoffs when temperatures are at or below 32 degrees or before holidays and weekends with freezing forecasts and applies to low-income households, military personnel, veterans, and LIHEAP or PIPP participants. Customers with past due bills are encouraged to contact their utility to set up deferred payment agreements, and eligible households can receive monthly bill discounts. More information is available from the ICC at 1-800-524-0795.
