Illinois to Receive More Than $1.1 Million in Cash App Settlement

CHICAGO — Illinois will receive more than $1.1 million as part of a $45 million bipartisan multistate settlement with Block Inc., the company that operates Cash App, Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced Tuesday. The settlement resolves allegations that Block misled users about the app’s security, failed to protect customers from fraud and did not properly investigate or reimburse unauthorized transactions as required by law. The agreement also requires Block to improve customer support, provide live phone and chat assistance, educate users about scams, stop misleading marketing and strengthen its fraud prevention and investigation practices. The settlement is subject to court approval and follows a separate agreement requiring Block to pay between $75 million and $120 million in consumer compensation nationwide.
