Illinois Offers Funding for Vacant Property Cleanup Program

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Housing Development Authority is accepting applications for $9 million in Strong Communities Program grants to help local governments address vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated homes across Illinois. Officials said the program provides up to $750,000 per grantee for acquisition, rehabilitation, demolition, and cleanup work aimed at improving neighborhoods and returning properties to the tax base. Since 2020, the program has supported more than 1,800 properties statewide. Applications are due June 16th, and an informational webinar will be held May 20th.
